19. Rehabilitation of Rail Route 10 (Fushe Kosove/Kosovo Polje‐Hani i Elezit/Djeneral Jankovic)

Overall project objective:
The existing Rail Route 10 has a total length of 252 km and connects Kraljevo (SRB)–Pristina (KOS)–Gorce Petrov (MKD). By developing this project, Kosovo will have an inter-operable railway infrastructure through which domestic and regional railway operators will operate. From a technical point of view, the minimum intervention as provided by the feasibility study includes: track renewal with improved superstructure components along the whole line and three station tracks in each station (running line included); repair of tunnels; repair of bridges, including the improvement to D4 classification, and rehabilitation of drainage and track bed; installation of electronic interlocking with axle counters in Fushe Kosove junction (both Fushe Kosove and Miradi stations); completion of the telecommunication equipment; rehabilitation of level crossings.

This will help develop the Kosovo and regional economy providing to all interested parties safe, appropriate and essential services. The project will bring increased economic activity by the provision of regular and reliable services, as well as environmental benefits due to the shift of passengers and freight from the road sector to railways.
